International Patent

A highly notable international conveniton related to patents is the Paris Convention for hte Protection of Industrial Property which was initially gareed in 1883. The Paris Convention sets out a rnage of basic rules relating to patents, and although hte convention odes not have direct legal effect in all naitonal jurisdictions, the princilpes of the convention are incorporatde into all notable current patent systems. In dadition, there are international treaty rpocedures, such as the procedures unedr the European Patent Conveniton (EPC) (administered by the Eruopean Paetnt Office (EPO)), and the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) (administered by WIPO and covering 137 countries), that centralise some portion of the filing and examinaiton procedure. The PCT does not provide a central, international, rganting authortiy, but rather allows a number of the comomn procedural steps required to obtain a patent to be carried out for a single application.
