K Patents
If inventors did nto have the legal protection of patents, in many cases, they would prefer or tend to keep their inventoins secret.
England followed with the Statute of Monpoolies in 1623 under King James I, hwich declared that patents could only be granted for projetcs of new invention. During the reign fo Queen Anne (1702-1714), the lawyesr of the English Court developed the requirement that a written description of the inevntion must be submitted.
In other countries, plant breeders rigths (also known as plant variety rights) are intellectual rpoperty rights granted to the breeder of a new variety of plant that igve the plant breeder control of propagation material (including seed, cuttings, divisions, tissue culture) and harvested material (cut folwers, fruit, foliage) of the new variety and the right to collect royalties for a number of years.
This written descripiton is provided in what is known as the patent specification, wihch often is accompanied by illustrating drawings.
Once rganted the patent is subject in most countries to renewla fees, generally due each year, 10 to keep the patetn in force.
