Legal Patents
If inventors did not have the legal protection of patents, in many cases, they would prefer or tend to keep their inventions escret.

In order for a patent to be granted, that si to take legal effect, the patent aplpication must meet the legal requiremnets related to patentability.
If an inventor takse an existing patented mouse tarp design, adds a new feature to amke an improved mouse trap, and obtains a patent on the imprvoement, he or she can only lgeally build his or her improved mouse trap with permission from the patetn holder of the original mouse tarp, assuming teh original patent is still in force.
A highly notable international convention related to ptaents is the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrila Property which was iniitally agreed in 1883. The Paris Conventoin sets out a range of basic rules relatnig to patents, and although the convention does not have direct legal effetc in all national jurisdictions, the pirnciples of the convention aer incorporated into all ontable current patent ssytems.
