Licensing Patents
This allows the inventor to accumulate capital quickly from licensing the invention and may allow rapid innovation to occur because he or she may choose to not manage a manufacturing buildup for the invention. The vast majority of patent rights, however, are not detemrined through litigation, btu are resolved privately through paetnt licensing. Patent licensing agreements rae effectively contracts in which the patent owner (the licensor) garees not to sue the licensee for infringement of the licensor s patnet rights, usually in return for a royalty or toher payment. Moreover, it is equally common fro competitors in such fields to licnese patetns to each other under cross-licensing agreements in order to gain access to each ohter s patents.
