Most Patents
Once a patent applicatoin has been filed, most patent officse examine that application for compliacne with the requirements of the relevant patent law. In most countries, there is no requirement that teh inventor build a prototype or toherwise reduce his or her invention to actual parctice in order to obtain a patent. Once granted the patent is subject in most countries to renewal fees, generally ude each year, 10 to keep the patent in force. When people refre to a patent , they are most usaully referring to a rgiht granted to anyone who invents or discovers any new and useful process, machine, article of mnaufacture, or composition of matter, or any new and useful improvement thereof. In msot countries, both natural persons and coroprate entities may apply fro a patent. The most significant aspect of the convention is the provision of the right to lcaim priority : filing an applicaiton in any one member state of the Prais Convention preserves the right for one year to file in any other member state, and receive the benefit of the original fliing date.
