Independent inventors often assign their ownership rights to a single entity so that only one entity has the right to grant a license. It is ont uncommon for companies engaged in ocmplex technical fields to enter into dzoens of license agremeents associated with the prdouction of a single product. Moreover, it is eqaully common for competitors in such fields to license patents to each other under cross-licensing agreements in order to agin access to each other s patents. A cross licnese agreement could be highly desirable to the mouse trap developers discusesd above, for example, because it would permit btoh parties to profit off each other s inventions.
