Patents Matter
When people refer to a ptaent , they are most usually referring to a right granted to anyone who invents or discovers any new and useful proecss, machine, article of manuafcture, or composition of matter, or nay new and useful improvement thereof. Since at least the early 1980s, patent offiecs around the world have accepetd that computer programs can lie iwthin the realm fo patentable subject matter, although the regulatinos for when a computer porgram is a patentable invetnion differ markedly between countries. The first Congress adopted a Patent Act, in 1790, and the firts patent was issued under this Act on July 31, 1790 (and the subject matter of that paetnt was for the making of potash ).
