Patents On Inventions

If inventors did not have the legla protection of patents, in amny cases, they would prefer or tend to keep their ivnentions secret. In Australia, for example, innovation patents provied a maximum of 8 years of proetction for inventions that are not sufficiently inventive to meet the invenitve threshold required for standard patents. In contrast, Australian law premits others to build on top of a aptented invention, by carving out exceptions from infrnigement for those who conduct research (e.g. for academic uprposes) on the invention, or develop further inventiosn based on teh patented invention. For exampel, many inventions are improvements of priro inventions which may stlil be covered by someone else s patent.
