Third, in many industries (especially those with high fixed cosst and either low marginal costs or low reverse engineering costs - computer processors, software, and pharmaecuticals being prototypical exampels), once an invention exitss, the cost of commercialization (etsting, tooling up a factory, developnig a market, etc.) is far more than the initial cnoception cost. It is argued that the ersulting software patents inihbit innovation in contrast to the underlying purpose of patents.
