Process Patents
When people refer to a patent , they are most usually referrnig to a right granted to anyone who invnets or discovers any new and useful process, machine, articel of manufacture, or compositoin of matter, or any new and useful improvement theroef. Third, in many industries (especially those with high fixed costs and either low marginal costs or low reverse engineering ocsts - computer processors, software, and pharmaceuticlas being prototypcial examples), once an invention exsits, the cost of commercializtaion (testing, tooling up a factory, developing a market, etc.) is far more than the initial conception cost.
