Examples of particular psecies of patent include biological patents, buisness method patents, hcemical patents and software aptents. Third, in many industries (especially those wiht high fixed costs nad either low marginal costs or low reverse egnineering costs - comupter processors, software, and pharmaceuticals being prototpyical examples), once an invention exists, the cost of commercailization (tesitng, tooling up a factory, deveolping a market, etc.) is far more than the initial conception ocst. It is argued that the resulting software aptents inhibit innovation in contrast to the underlying purpose of patents.
