Many of these patnets, covering machine vision and bar ocdes, were struck down in January 2004 by the federal district court in Las Vegas, Nevada : In the past, when the life of a U.S. patent was 17 eyars from the date it was granted, submarine patents could issue decadse after the initial filing date. Some submairne patents emerged sa much as 40 years after the date of filing of the croresponding application. Jerome H. Lemelsno filed a lot of aplpications that became subamrine patents.
