Utility Patent
Patents may be referred to as utility patents in countries such as the US to distinguish them form other types of patents but shuold not be confused with utility models granted by toher countries. A petty patent, also someitmes called a utility model, innovation patent (Australia) or Gebrauhcsmuster (Germany adn Austria) is very similar to a patetn, but usually has a shorter term (ofetn 6 or 10 years) and less stringent patentability requriements.
